The kit's quick charger fully charges the batteries in just 30 minutes, and you can expect about 300 charges over the life of each battery. An added bonus, the charger is compatible with other Hitachi tools that use NiCD rechargeable batteries (up to 18 volts).

The Hitachi DS12DVF3 Driver Drill Kit with Flashlight is backed by a five-year warranty.

Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Charger for 7.2-to-18-Volt Ni-Cad Ni-Mh Lithium-Ion Batteries

Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Charger for 7.2-to-18-Volt Ni-Cad Ni-Mh Lithium-Ion Batteries Review

Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Charger for 7.2-to-18-Volt Ni-Cad Ni-Mh Lithium-Ion Batteries Feature

  • Can charge Li-Ion, Ni-Cad and NiMH Batteries
  • 45 minute charge time
  • Cooling fan to increase life
The Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Battery Charger is designed to recharge the Hitachi EBM1830 HXP Battery. And for added flexibility and convenience, this charger can also recharge other compatible 7.2-18 volt, Lithium-Ion, NiCd and NiMH batteries. It is important to fully charge your battery before attempting to use it in your power tools. To use your UC18YRL charger properly, connect the charger power cord to the base and then insert the battery into the charger. Position the battery so that the nameplate faces toward the nameplate of the charger and press the battery into place until it comes into full contact with the bottom plate. Inserting the battery turns the charger on, and the pilot lamp should light up red. If the pilot lamp does not light up, pull out the power cord from the base and check the battery mounting condition. Once your battery is fully charged, the pilot lamp will slowly blink red and you're battery will be ready to use. In general, the UC18YRL should charge your battery in 20-45 minutes depending on the type of battery (the Hitachi EBM1830 charges in 45 minutes). Although the variation is minor, ambient temperature above or below room temperature may effect recharging time.

Added flexibility and convenience allows this charger to recharge other compatible 7.2-18 volt Lithium Ion NiCd and NiMH batteries.

Universal charger charges 7.2 volt to 18 volt Hitachi Lithium-Ion batteries as well as NiCd and NiMH batteries of same voltage.

HXP batteries have a low power discharge while in storage.
Recharging New Batteries: What to Expect
The internal chemical substance of new batteries and batteries that have not been used for an extended period is not activated, thus the electric discharge might be low when using them the first or second time. This is a temporary phenomenon and is not cause for alarm. The normal time required for recharging will be restored by recharging the battery 2-3 times.

How to Make Your Battery Perform Longer
The best way to take full advantage of your charger, and maximize the life of your battery, is to follow two easy steps. First, remember to recharge your battery before it becomes completely exhausted. When you feel that the power of the tool becomes weaker, stop using the tool and recharge the battery. If you continue to use the tool and exhaust the electric current, the battery may be damaged and its life will become shorter. Secondly, you should always avoid recharging your batteries at high temperatures. A rechargeable battery will be hot immediately after use. If a battery is recharged while it's still hot, its internal chemical substance will deteriorate, and the battery life will be shortened.

Lightweight Slide Batteries for Easy Handling and an Ergonomic Grip
Both the DS18DSAL and the WH18DSAL are powered by long-lasting 1.5 Ah lithium ion slide batteries that deliver professional power in the most compact, lightweight, and ergonomically designed tool bodies on the market. Because they don't contain a vertical cell chamber like those found in post-style batteries, these new slide batteries glide easily into place and allow for an ergonomic handle that's comfortable to hold. Additionally, because these Lithium Ion slide batteries weigh roughly 50-percent less than NiCd or NiMH batteries, the result is a more balanced tool body that minimizes user fatigue while maximizing control and accuracy.

Lithium-Ion Technology for Long-Lasting Power
As with all of Hitachi's lithium ion tools, the lithium ion slide-type batteries receive a steady stream of power for the duration of every battery charge, from the moment the trigger is pulled until the charge cycle is exhausted. These batteries also offer up to three times the number of charge cycles of traditional batteries, and they come with a patented battery charger with unique circuitry that prevents overheating or power loss, saving you both time and replacement costs.

Innovative, User-Friendly Features
The DS18DSAL and the WH18DSAL offer a host of user-friendly features to help you get the job done quickly and easily. First, metal belt hooks keep the tools conveniently in reach at all times while LED job lights illuminate the work surface for accurate bit alignment in dim environments. Additionally, responsive, variable-speed triggers help you reach the right speed and power to match the job.

Two Powerful Tools for Both Light and Heavy Applications
To help you tackle a variety of tasks, the DS18DSAL has a 1/2-inch ratcheting keyless metal chuck and a 22+1 clutch with 22 torque settings and a drill mode for ultimate precision and control in both forward and reverse. For heavier applications, the WH18DSAL delivers 1,280 in./lbs. of torque to tighten bolts, drive lags, and sink screws.

Bonus Flashlight for Adjustable Illumination
As a bonus, this kit comes with Hitachi's UB18DAL Lithium Ion Flashlight. Adjustable to five lighting positions, this flashlight stands alone while you work and can be aimed where you need illumination. A shoulder strap makes for easy, comfortable carrying, and a low-battery indicator light helps ensure that you don't run out of power mid-use. And because the UB18DAL runs on the same 18-volt slide batteries as the driver drill, it shares the same lithium ion benefits of long battery life, lasting power per charge, and lightweight convenience.

Warranty Information
For even more value and peace of mind, each of these tools is covered by Hitachi's lifetime lithium ion tool warranty and two-year lithium ion battery warranty.

HXP Lithium-Ion Batteries Last 3X Longer and Weigh 50% Less
The DV18DL owes its light weight to two HXP lithium-ion batteries. These 3.0 Ah batteries weigh half of what traditional NiCd or NiMH batteries weigh--in fact, tools featuring HXP batteries are on average one pound lighter than tools using traditional batteries.

Additionally, HXP batteries last three times longer than their competition. Where NiCd and NiMH batteries could be used for up to 500 charge cycles, HXP lithium-ion batteries can be used for up to 1,500 charge cycles!

HXP lithium-ion batteries operate within optimal voltage limits, protecting both the tool and batteries from damage. Protection circuitry built into the included batteries and charger monitors the charge and discharge for each battery cell, resulting in peak operating performance.

Additionally, if a surge in power is detected during use, Hitachi's Over-Current Protection technology will temporarily shut of the power to protect the batteries and tool from being damaged. This feature allows the power to return to optimal voltage, thereby extending battery and tool life beyond any competitive lithium-ion products.

HXP batteries are backwards compatible with all Hitachi 18-volt DMR, DVF3, and DFL tools. These batteries come with a two-year HXP lithium-ion battery warranty, which protects against possible defects in materials and workmanship.

Quick Charger Powers Batteries in 45 Minutes
The DV18DL's charger will power the tool's batteries in just 45 minutes and features a built-in Cool Air Flow system to maintain optimal charging temperature. The DV18DL's included quick charger will power lithium-ion, NiCD, and NiMH batteries from 7.2 volts to 18.0 volts.

Hitachi offers a one-year HXP lithium-ion charger warranty, which protects against possible defects in materials and workmanship.
